About the Race

The 16th Annual Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon (also lovingly referred to as the "Kids Tri" or "SVKT") is one of the country's largest Triathlons specifically for Kids age 4-15.

In case you're wondering, a triathlon is a race that consists of three main events: Swimming, Cycling, and Running (in that order). Kids start the race with the swimming event at the De Anza College pool in waves of between about 25 to 50 other kids. From the swim, they'll run to the transition area put on their helmets and shoes (and anything else they need). They'll then mount their bikes head out to the bike course on the De Anza College campus roads (Note that the bike course will be closed to all vehicular traffic). When the kids are done with the bike, they'll head back to transition to put their bike away, then head to the run on the De Anza Track. They’ll finish the course on the track.

Course Descriptions

This section contains information regarding the course that is important to parents/guardians and to their young athletes. Age groups will have different course lengths in the swim, bike and run events. Reading and following these instructions will help assure that race day will be safe and enjoyable for kids and adults alike.

Special Note On Lap Counting: Please be sure your young athlete knows how many bike laps he/she needs to do.  Volunteers will count laps of athletes from 9 through 15 using slap bracelets on the wrist. However, it is the responsibility of each athlete to count his/her laps.  We also will be able to tell if an athlete has done less or more laps than required based on our past records.  Volunteers will count every  age-group's run laps also using the wrist ("slap") bands.
